Katomen

Katomen Tomato Ramen | The Ultimate Hangover Bowl?

Have you ever struggled with a hangover after a night of drinking? Most people usually reached for either a steaming spicy red broth or something rich and comforting to bounce back.

There was a pretty appealing hangover menu in Seolleung that checked both boxes. It was the Tomato Ramen at 카토멘 (a ramen spot known for its tomato-based ramen). The spicy broth base blended with savory melted cheese, making it incredibly satisfying. I visited in the evening, but it actually felt like an even better lunch option for a hangover cure. Here’s how my visit went!

🏕️ Stepping into Katomen With a Striking Red Awning

As soon as I arrived at the entrance, the bright red awning and outdoor seating immediately caught my eye.

Inside the restaurant

The dining area was a little compact, but the wooden tables gave it a cozy hideaway vibe that felt comfortable and welcoming.

The place had also appeared on 생활의 달인 (Korean TV show featuring skilled masters), so it was known for being packed with energy during office workers’ lunch hours.

🍜 Diving into Katomen With Its Unique Tomato Ramen

The main menu was only Tomato Ramen.

You didn’t have to spend time deciding what to order here. The signature dish was simply Tomato Ramen. Instead, you could choose between chewy fresh noodles and thick udon noodles depending on your preference.

I didn’t hesitate and went with the fresh noodles, then added extra cheese as well.

A bowl topped generously with cheese

When the ramen arrived, the fluffy layer of pale cheese sitting on top of the vibrant red broth already looked incredibly appetizing.

I melted the cheese into the broth before digging in.

After taking a careful spoonful, I tasted the bright tanginess of tomato stew followed by a pleasant spicy kick. I couldn’t stop reaching for another bite. It felt familiar rather than strange, yet it kept drawing me back in.

The combination of tomato and ramen might sound unusual at first, but it turned out to be much tastier than I expected.

🥣 Finishing Every Drop With an Irresistible Broth

The thin fresh noodles soaked up the thick broth beautifully, making them easy to slurp down.

By the end, I found myself constantly scooping up more broth. I kept thinking, “This would be perfect for a hangover.” At the same time, it amusingly made me crave a cold beer as well.

Either way, I ended up wiping the bowl completely clean and leaving nothing behind 😅

💡 Who Should Come Here?

1. Anyone looking for a hearty and unusual hangover meal instead of the typical soup-and-rice options.

2. Anyone who enjoys tomato stew or rich, spicy broth-based dishes.

3. Anyone curious about Tomato Ramen.

💬 Wrapping Up With Final Thoughts

At first, the combination of tomato and ramen might have sounded a little unusual. But after one bowl, it became easy to understand why this single-menu restaurant had stayed popular for so long. If you’re around Seolleung, it’s definitely worth stopping by for something different.
