After finishing dakgalbi, I ended up checking out another cafe recommended by an acquaintance. It was 번트엄버 (a roastery cafe), better known as Burnt Umber. The vintage red-brick exterior immediately caught my eye. With its wide-open outdoor terrace views and distinctive industrial vibe, it felt like the perfect place to kick back with a coffee and enjoy the breeze. Here’s my visit to Burnt Umber.
📸 Stepping into Vintage & Industrial Style
The entrance was built with red bricks, which gave off a warm and welcoming feel right away. Once I stepped inside, the space felt much larger and more open than it looked from the outside.
The overall interior leaned heavily into an industrial aesthetic with metal accents, while large, worn brown leather sofas added a rich vintage character. The combination worked together surprisingly well.
Throughout the cafe, I spotted various metal sculptures. Birds, owls, and fish had been crafted by joining together metal parts like spoons and forks. The pieces were displayed along the walls and around the tables, making the space feel like a small gallery. It was fun looking around while waiting for drinks.
☕ With Great Coffee to Match the View
An Americano was 5,000 KRW, while a latte was around 6,000 KRW, which felt quite reasonable for a cafe on the outskirts of Paju with such expansive views. Besides coffee, there were plenty of non-coffee options including yogurt smoothies, ades, and grapefruit tea, making it a great choice even for people who don’t usually drink coffee. One unusual thing was that they also sold beer.
As expected from a roastery cafe that roasted its own beans, the iced Americano I ordered tasted excellent. It went down smooth and clean without any heaviness, and its distinctive flavor really stood out. It was perfect for a caffeine boost on a sleepy afternoon.

The real highlight here was definitely the outdoor terrace. The front of the cafe opened up with folding doors, so even the indoor seating felt airy and spacious. Stepping outside revealed sweeping views of the river and mountains in the distance.
I visited in the late afternoon as the sun was beginning to set. Sitting beneath one of the terrace parasols, I enjoyed the cool breeze while watching the sky gradually turn shades of red and orange. The sunset was so beautiful that I completely lost track of time. Away from the busy city, it felt like an ideal place to sit down and chat quietly with a friend. It also seemed like a great spot to recharge when life felt overwhelming, so I’d recommend it as a worthwhile driving destination near the city.

Since it’s located along Dolgotji-gil in Paju, I’d recommend visiting by car rather than public transportation. The cafe sits slightly higher up, which helps guarantee those fantastic views.
