Did you know there’s actually a “Nepal Food Street” near Dongdaemun in Seoul? If you’ve ever walked around the Dongdaemun–Dongmyo (Changsin-dong area) on a weekend afternoon and wondered why there were so many South Asian people around, the answer was simple: the area was packed with great Nepalese and Indian curry restaurants.

So today, I’m sharing a place you should check out whenever you’re craving something a little different. Not instant curry—real Indian curry.

This was 에베레스트 동대문점 (Everest Dongdaemun), a restaurant specializing in Nepalese and Indian cuisine. Before I even stepped inside, I spotted a whole collection of Blue Ribbon stickers covering the entrance door, which immediately got my expectations up.

There are several restaurants nearby with similar names, so make sure you find this one tucked farther inside the alley.

🕌 Stepping into an Exotic Atmosphere in Dongdaemun

When we visited at around 7 PM on a weekday evening, it wasn’t too crowded.

As soon as we walked in, the Nepalese owner couple greeted us with warm smiles. The interior opened up into a space that felt like a local restaurant in Nepal or India—at least how I imagined one would look. The colorful decorations and unique atmosphere made the curry feel even more exciting.

We settled into a table seat that felt private and comfortable for conversation.

We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer for the curries, Butter Naan, Basmati rice, and one Plain Lassi plus one Mango Lassi.

🍛 Diving into Spicy Chicken Tikka Masala at Everest Dongdaemun

One of the main dishes we ordered was the vibrant red Chicken Tikka Masala.

It came with large, tender chunks of chicken, and the combination of tangy tomato-based flavors with a spicy kick was seriously addictive.

My girlfriend found it a little spicy, and I thought it was slightly hotter than Shin Ramyun. If you’re sensitive to heat, that’s worth keeping in mind.

On the other hand, if you enjoy spicy food, the deep spice flavors and soft chicken worked together beautifully and made for a very satisfying curry.

🍲 With Creamy Palak Paneer and Rich Spinach Flavor

To balance out the spicier curry, we also ordered Palak Paneer, a spinach curry.

The cream decoration on top was a fun touch. It looked like a little animal drawing—though I couldn’t quite tell which one. I heard they sometimes draw hearts or even write “I♡U” on top as well.

If it’s your first time seeing a green curry, the appearance might surprise you. But once I dug in, the creamy texture and rich spinach flavor really stood out. Alternating between the spicy Chicken Tikka Masala and the smooth Palak Paneer kept every bite interesting.

There were chunks of paneer cheese throughout the curry, and instead of feeling heavy, they added a pleasant nutty richness.

🫓 Pairing Curry With Chewy Butter Naan & Basmati Rice

No curry meal would be complete without naan.

The giant Butter Naan was so large it extended beyond the plate. The outside was lightly crisp and glossy, while the inside stayed soft and chewy, making it perfect for scooping up curry.

You can tear off pieces by hand and dip them into the curry, or spoon curry onto the naan before taking a bite.

Since rice is essential for us Koreans, we also ordered Basmati rice. Indian curry paired perfectly with the fluffy yellow rice, which gets its color from turmeric.

🍹 Finishing Up With Traditional Lassi Drinks

To wrap up the meal, we paired it with a Plain Lassi and a Mango Lassi to cool down the spice. They reminded me of drinkable yogurt, but richer, sweeter, and incredibly satisfying after the meal.
