Yongyong Seonsaeng | Chinese Dishes and Beer Near Ansan Jungang Station

Earlier this week, I headed over to Ansan to meet up with some acquaintances.

Since everyone got off work at different times and not all of us had arrived yet, we decided to fill up our stomachs and grab a few beers first. That’s how we ended up visiting 용용선생 (a Hong Kong-inspired Chinese pub restaurant), located near Ansan Jungang Station.

🏮 Stepping into Hong Kong Night Vibes With Red Neon Lights

As soon as I walked in, the red lighting that Yongyong Seonsaeng is known for was glowing throughout the space, just like at its other branches. It gave off a pretty exotic atmosphere. The tables were spaced comfortably apart, and some areas were separated like partitions, making it a great place to sit back and chat.

🌋 Diving into Yongyong Seonsaeng’s Volcano Mala Hot Pot

We ordered the Volcano Mala Hot Pot, one of Yongyong Seonsaeng’s signature dishes. Thinly sliced meat was piled high above the hot pot like a mountain, with a generous amount of mala sauce sitting right on top. It definitely grabbed attention.

As it simmered away, the bean sprouts and vegetables hidden inside released their juices and turned the broth into a rich, flavorful hot pot. The mala aroma wasn’t overpowering and blended in gently, so even people who weren’t used to mala flavors could probably enjoy it without much hesitation.

That said, when we visited, it felt a little salty. Maybe we happened to get a heavier serving of seasoning that day. 😅

🍗 Pairing Moist Yuringi With Savory Beef Brisket Stir-Fry

Alongside the hot pot, we also tried the Crispy Chili Yuringi. Thick pieces of fried chicken were topped with a generous pile of thinly sliced Cheongyang chili peppers.

Rather than being extra crunchy, the coating had soaked up the sweet-and-sour sauce underneath, giving it a moist and tender texture. Adding a bit of chili pepper to each bite brought out a nice balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors.

The Black Pepper Beef Brisket had a strong peppery aroma and paired really well with the crisp bok choy, making it an excellent dish to go with drinks.

We also ordered Egg Fried Rice. The fluffy, well-separated grains went perfectly with the hot pot broth and left us feeling completely satisfied.

💬 Wrapping Up With a Relaxed Dinner and Drinks

This was my first time visiting the Ansan Jungang branch of Yongyong Seonsaeng. I got to enjoy Chinese-style dishes in an exotic atmosphere, and the flavors felt approachable without being too divisive. There are certainly plenty of dining options around Ansan Jungang Station, but if you’re looking to enjoy Chinese food and drinks together, this place could be worth considering.
