Jangdokdae Kimchi Jjim

Jangdokdae Kimchi Jjim Kimchi Jjigae | Spicy Rib Stew & Cheese Omelet

These days, the tropical nights and extreme heat have been tough. Yesterday happened to be Jungbok, the middle of the hottest summer period. On days like this, a lot of people head out to indoor shopping complexes to stay comfortable.

So today, I wanted to share my visit to 장독대김치찜김치찌개 (a Korean restaurant specializing in kimchi stew and braised kimchi dishes) in the Tasty Park dining area on the 4th floor of 용산역 아이파크몰 (Yongsan Station I’Park Mall). I filled up on spicy, tangy aged kimchi rib stew topped with plenty of bean sprouts, paired with a rich cheese rolled omelet. Since it was directly connected to the station, getting there was incredibly easy. Jangdokdae Kimchi Jjim turned out to be a convenient stop for a hearty meal.

🏢 Stepping into a Spot With Excellent Hygiene Standards

When I headed up to the restaurant floor on the 4th level of I’Park Mall, the clean exterior immediately stood out. There was a sign on the entrance window showing the restaurant had received the highest food hygiene rating, which made dining there feel even more pleasant during the hot weather.

The menu offered a wide variety of choices, from individual meal sets like kimchi stew and pork neck kimchi jjim to shareable dishes such as spicy kimchi rib stew and budae jjigae.

Since we wanted to really dig into some meat, we ordered the spicy kimchi rib stew along with a side of cheese rolled omelet.

🥘 Diving into Jangdokdae Kimchi Jjim With Aged Kimchi and Tender Ribs

Our main dish, the spicy kimchi rib stew, finally arrived. Large pieces of aged kimchi were cut into generous portions inside a big hot pot, while hefty rib bones were tucked underneath.

The meat had already been cooked until tender, so when I held it with tongs and cut it with scissors, the meat slipped right off the bone with ease.

After cutting the spicy seasoned meat into bite-sized pieces, it was ready to eat once the glass noodles cooked through. The fully fermented sour kimchi paired with the spicy broth so well that it became the perfect companion for a bowl of rice.

🍳 With Melty Cheese Inside a Thick Rolled Omelet

No partner matched spicy braised ribs better than a cheese rolled omelet.

It arrived on a long plate, filling it almost completely, with ketchup drizzled across the top in an appetizing zigzag pattern.

When I gently split open the thick center with my chopsticks, soft white cheese flowed out from inside. Whenever the spiciness lingered in my mouth, a bite of the rich cheese omelet balanced everything out perfectly.

💡 Who Should Come Here?

It’s a good choice for shoppers at I’Park Mall who want a filling Korean meal after browsing around the large complex. It’s also a safe pick for anyone who prefers familiar Korean flavors over heavier Western dishes, especially if spicy and tangy aged kimchi dishes are your favorite.
