Bonga Daktang | Boneless Chicken Hot Pot & Kalguksu
Looking at the calendar, it was already late June. The midday heat had started to make me sweat, and it really felt like summer was right around the corner.
The hotter the weather gets, the more I find myself craving a nourishing meal that fills you up from the inside out.
So today, I brought along a visit to 본가닭탕 (Bonga Daktang), located near Sinjung-dong Station in Bucheon, a perfect spot for a summer health-boosting meal.
It served a clear-broth dakhanmari-style chicken hot pot, but what made it unique was that you could switch the main dish to boneless chicken. On a hot day, not having to pick around bones made the meal incredibly comfortable and enjoyable.
🐔 Stepping into a Spacious Spot With Boneless Chicken Hot Pot Options

I took this photo on the way out after finishing our meal. When we walked in, the place was completely packed!
Once inside, I found a very spacious dining area with plenty of room between tables, making it a comfortable place to eat with friends. There were also lots of groups that looked like they were having company dinners.

Bonga Daktang Menu
I looked through the menu and found their main Chicken Hot Pot available in small, medium, and large sizes, along with spicy braised chicken and various add-ons. We ordered the signature Chicken Hot Pot and switched it to the boneless option. Seeing a chicken hot pot offered boneless instead of bone-in felt pretty unusual and interesting. We also added the assorted toppings platter and kalguksu noodles for the finale.
🍲 Diving into a Rich Clear Broth Full of Flavor

Chicken Hot Pot with assorted toppings added
Not long after ordering, a large pot of Chicken Hot Pot arrived at our table.
The clear broth came loaded with large green onions, ginseng, jujubes, and whole garlic cloves. Even before it started boiling, it already felt like a nourishing meal. Haha.
Once the broth started bubbling away, it was only right to scoop out the dumplings and rice cakes first.

We dug into the rice cakes and dumplings right away.
I took a spoonful of the broth and found it light rather than greasy, yet packed with the deep savory flavor that only chicken stock can bring. Since it wasn’t overly strong or spicy, I thought it’d also be a great choice for dining with parents.
🥢 Enjoying Tender Chicken With the House Special Sauce

The highlight here was definitely the combination of tender boneless chicken and the restaurant’s special seasoning sauce.
They brought out a spicy seasoning base and sliced green onions at the table. By mixing in as many green onions as you liked, you could whip up a spicy, tangy sauce that worked perfectly with the chicken.

Well-cooked chicken paired with the special sauce
I picked up a piece of tender chicken, topped it generously with the seasoned green onions, and dug in. The balance of flavors was excellent. Since there were no bones to deal with, we could keep eating nonstop, and the chicken disappeared from the pot surprisingly fast.
🍜 Finishing Off With Chewy Kalguksu Noodles

The kalguksu portion was huge.
After eating most of the chicken, there was no way we could skip the kalguksu noodles simmered in the rich reduced broth.
Since there were two of us, we ordered a two-person portion of noodles, and the amount was seriously generous. Haha.
In a way, it almost felt like the noodles could’ve been the main dish themselves!
After topping up the broth slightly and letting the noodles cook through, they soaked up all that flavorful chicken stock and turned into an excellent bowl of chicken kalguksu.

A magical sauce that worked either mixed with broth or on its own.
Pairing the noodles with the special seasoning sauce created another delicious combination.
I added a bite of kimchi or cubed radish kimchi and slurped everything down. Even though I was already full, I kept reaching for more.

We finished the meal very happily.
We just kept eating and eventually cleared everything. 😄
