Munbaedong Yukkal | A Spicy Yukkal After Work
A few days ago on my way home from work, I suddenly started craving a spicy, hearty broth, and yukgaejang came to mind. After looking around a bit, I found 문배동육칼 (a restaurant known for yukgaejang and kalguksu) in Samseong-dong and stopped by.
The original branch in Yongsan’s Munbae-dong was already well known, and I’d eaten there before. This was my first visit to the Samseong branch.

🚶♂️ Stepping into a Cozy Exterior

As soon as I headed in by the Munbaedong Yukkal sign, I came across several potted plants and the actual entrance.
For some reason, the whole place felt friendly and comfortable.
🍜 With No Hesitation, I Picked Yukkal

I visited during dinner time, and the dining room looked clean. There were also quite a few people eating alone, so I settled in comfortably without feeling self-conscious.

Looking at the menu, the signature Yukkal set (yukgaejang + kalguksu + rice) was 12,000 KRW.
I was pretty hungry after work, so I ordered it right away.
🥩 With Generous Beef Brisket and Green Onions

Munbaedong Yukkal side dishes and meal
Once I sat down, they set out kkakdugi, napa cabbage kimchi, stir-fried seaweed stems, and bean sprouts as side dishes.
Then the main yukgaejang arrived, and the bright red broth alone already looked wonderfully spicy.

The bowl was packed with tender shredded beef brisket and well-cooked green onions.
🥢 Diving into Kalguksu and Rice, Two Different Charms
The biggest feature here was that the kalguksu noodles didn’t come already mixed into the soup. They were served separately.

Plenty of kalguksu noodles
A tip written on the wall suggested adding the noodles in two or three batches instead of putting them all in at once.
I followed the recommendation and dipped the springy noodles into the rich broth a little at a time. The noodles didn’t get soggy, which I really liked. The spicy broth paired perfectly with the noodles, and each bite with the beef brisket and green onions was delicious.

After finishing most of the noodles, it was time to add the small bowl of rice that came with the meal.
It brought out a different kind of appeal from the noodles—heartier and more filling.
It didn’t feel overwhelmingly spicy in my mouth, but I could feel the warmth building up inside, and I ended up sweating quite a bit.

Still, I finished every last bite. 😋
💡 Who Should Come Here?
1. Anyone looking for a comfortable spot to enjoy a solo meal after work near Samseong Station or POSCO Intersection.
2. Anyone wanting to shake off the day’s fatigue with a spicy, warming broth.
3. Anyone who can never decide between kalguksu and rice and wants both.
💬 Wrapping Up With a Satisfying Bowl
The yukgaejang was deeply flavored and carefully simmered, staying true to the basics, which made it feel well worth the price.
If you’re around Samseong-dong and start craving a hearty bowl of soup, I’d recommend checking it out.
