What plans did everyone have for this weekend?
After the usual routine of grabbing a meal and heading to a café, I sometimes wanted to break away from the same old weekend date pattern and laugh out loud. So not long ago, I headed over to Daehangno near Hyehwa Station to catch a play for the first time in a while.
Your Voice I Hear was the longtime Daehangno favorite that had kept drawing audiences for years. It followed a convenience store part-timer who gained the supernatural ability to read other people’s thoughts and a protagonist falsely accused of a crime as they stumbled through a comic romance while trying to uncover the truth. 😄

🎭 Stepping into Bright Lights at 도토리씨어터 (Dotori Theater)

This play was being performed at Dotori Theater, tucked away in an alley not far from Exit 2 of Hyehwa Station.
Even though it was my first visit, I found it easily thanks to the large and eye-catching yellow LED sign that stood out right away.

From the basement entrance leading down to the ticket booth, round lights filled the ceiling and created a cheerful atmosphere that got me excited before I even walked in. The theater opened 30 minutes before showtime, so I picked up my ticket and headed inside. Most Daehangno plays use open seating rather than assigned seats, so visitors choose their seats in order of entry. Sitting closer to the front would’ve given an even better view of the actors, but we ended up choosing seats in the middle.

It looked like Dotori Theater was hosting other productions too, since posters for another show were displayed in Theater Hall 1.
Then it was finally time to head into the performance hall!

From the drink display case to the snack shelves, the details made it feel like a real convenience store had been moved directly onto the stage. It was incredibly charming.
As I sat in the cozy small theater with its soft lighting and looked at the set, I couldn’t help wondering what kind of fun story would unfold in such a familiar setting. The closeness of a small theater really added to the appeal.

Once the play kicked off, I got completely drawn in and lost track of time.
The comedy moved at a quick and lighthearted pace. The storyline held up well, but what stood out most was how the actors constantly played off the audience and kept the atmosphere shifting in all the right ways.
The cast changed costumes so quickly that it was genuinely surprising to watch them take on multiple roles. They skillfully drew reactions from the audience, almost like they were playfully reeling us in, and the jokes landed naturally without ever feeling forced. The theater stayed filled with laughter from start to finish. Audience participation was blended in smoothly too, so everyone seemed able to enjoy it together.

When the curtain call began after the performance ended, the energy inside the theater ramped up even more.
