Michin Jjukkumi | Unlimited Sides with Spicy Jjukkumi

Last week, I originally planned to eat lamb skewers in Konkuk University, but maybe because the weather looked a little gloomy, I suddenly craved something spicy that evening. So I ended up checking out 미친쭈꾸미 건대본점 (Michin Jjukkumi’s main Konkuk University branch).

This generous restaurant served spicy jjukkumi pork belly along with three unlimited side ingredients. I had a really satisfying meal, so I wanted to share a quick review. You can find out exactly what’s unlimited below!

By the way, these days people apparently write “(positive)” or even just “(p)” to show a positive meaning…

So is this the right way to say it? Michin (p) Jjukkumi? 🫠

🐙 Stepping into a Cozy Atmosphere With Friendly Service

I visited around 7 PM on a Saturday. Luckily, there wasn’t a wait, but the restaurant filled up right after we got seated. There were quite a few plastic chairs set up outside, which made it seem like waiting lines were pretty common.

As soon as I walked in, the adorable jjukkumi dolls lined up along the wall immediately caught my eye. The place had a friendly, casual street-bar vibe that felt perfect for hanging out and chatting with friends.

I noticed a sign on the wall that said, “Unlimited bean sprouts, glass noodles, and sweet corn.” I love piling bean sprouts onto spicy dishes, so being able to refill them without hesitation was a huge plus.

🥩 Diving into Michin Jjukkumi Pork Belly With Great Presentation

We ordered the jjukkumi pork belly, which let us enjoy both meat and seafood at the same time. The seasoned jjukkumi sat generously in the center of a round iron plate, while slices of pork belly were arranged neatly around the edge. It looked fantastic before we even took a bite.

A staff member came over and helped cook everything. As the spicy sauce bubbled away, the aroma of the meat and seafood cooking together really got my appetite going.

Once everything had cooked down a bit, they tossed in the unlimited bean sprouts and glass noodles and stirred everything together so the sauce could soak in properly.

🥬 Pairing Perilla Leaves With Sweet Corn Mayo

The finished jjukkumi pork belly.

Garlic mayo was a must with the spicy jjukkumi.

A delicious wrap with jjukkumi and corn mayo on a perilla leaf.

The spicy, perfectly cooked jjukkumi was chewy and delicious on its own, but there was a signature combination here that really stood out. I wrapped jjukkumi and pork belly in a fragrant perilla leaf, then topped it with sweet and nutty corn mayo.

The corn mayo balanced out the heat beautifully and created layers of flavor in every bite.

They also served garlic mayo dipping sauce as a standard side. Even people who don’t handle spicy food very well could probably enjoy it this way.

Refilled bean sprouts and glass noodles.

Partway through the meal, we ordered another refill of the bean sprouts and glass noodles.

🍚 Finishing Off With Flying Fish Roe Fried Rice

The meal ended with fried rice.

Even when I was full, it didn’t feel right to skip fried rice after a sizzling iron-plate dish. We added flying fish roe fried rice to the remaining sauce.

It came packed with rice, seaweed flakes, and plenty of bright orange flying fish roe.

We spread it thinly across the iron plate, let it crisp up slightly, and scraped it up to eat. The popping texture of the roe paired perfectly with the savory seasoning, making for an excellent finish.
