Hanjeome Hanjan Ujeong Sushi | Omakase by Day, Izakaya by Night

I visited 한점에 한잔 우정초밥 (Hanjeome Hanjan Ujeong Sushi) with my family to celebrate my mom’s birthday.

Ujeong Sushi had actually been known for its great-value omakase for years. Since May this year, it seemed to have split its concept between lunch and dinner service.

Lunch operated as a sushi omakase, while dinner transformed into an izakaya.

The restaurant gave off a neat and polished vibe right from the entrance. The sign was quite small, so it would’ve been easy to miss. Just remember the large wooden door.

🕯️ Stepping into a Cozy Counter Seat With a Front-Row View

Inside, a long counter stretched out beneath soft lighting, letting diners watch the chef cook right in front of them.

The tables were spacious and the chairs were comfortable, making it a private spot where conversations flowed without interruptions. Since the place was rooted in omakase dining, it felt a bit like stepping into a beloved late-night diner from a Japanese drama.

Pickled ginger, fresh wasabi, chojang sauce, and truffle salt were served. If you’ve ever tried sashimi or sushi with salt instead of soy sauce, you’ll know how it brings out the clean, fresh flavor of the fish. I already liked that style, so the addition of truffle salt made me even more excited.

🐟 Diving into Melt-in-Your-Mouth Assorted Sashimi at Hanjeome Hanjan

Since it was an izakaya visit, sashimi was a must. We ordered the assorted sashimi platter, which was prepared with carefully selected premium fish of the day. It included tuna, salmon, flatfish, flatfish fin, sea bream, and amberjack. Every slice was thick, chewy, and impressively fresh.

Next came the sushi. Could you see the glossy shine even in the photo? I loved sushi with less rice and generously sized fish, and this was exactly that style. The thick-cut salmon and deep-red tuna melted away almost instantly. The chef mentioned that a light layer of sesame oil had been brushed onto the tuna, adding a nutty aroma and even more savory depth.

🍜 Savoring Rich and Nutty Abalone Innards Pasta

This was the abalone innards pasta, a dish I couldn’t quite predict before trying it. Despite the name, it came with udon noodles, so don’t be surprised. The chef had apparently tested different combinations and found that udon paired best with the sauce.

Abalone innards created an intensely rich and nutty sauce. One spoonful delivered a deep, creamy flavor. The generous topping of scallions and chili peppers cut through the richness with a pleasant kick, making it the kind of dish that had us scraping up every last bit.

🍣 Enjoying Giant Futomaki Packed With Fresh Fillings

The futomaki perfectly filled in any lingering craving for something more substantial, even though we were already quite full.

When it arrived neatly sliced on the board, I was surprised by its size. Each piece was nearly as large as a fist. Inside were fresh tuna, salmon, and sweet, fluffy rolled egg packed to the brim. It looked delicious before I even took a bite. Bigger really did mean better here.

My family even got some extra laughs watching each other attempt to fit the huge pieces into a single bite.

🍶 Finishing With Complimentary Sake

The chef happened to overhear that it was my mom’s birthday and kindly treated us to a glass of sake called “Oshaberi Kujira,” which came in an adorable blue bottle.

It was a very smooth sake with sweet peach and pear notes, and I thought it paired perfectly with the sashimi. The experience truly lived up to the name Hanjeome Hanjan, and I appreciated the thoughtful gesture that turned the meal into an even more memorable occasion.

💡 Who Should Come Here?

1. Anyone who’d rather enjoy quiet conversation at a counter seat than dine in a noisy sashimi restaurant.

2. Anyone looking to savor high-quality aged sashimi that melted in the mouth.

3. Anyone who’d like to pair rich abalone innards pasta with a refreshing highball or a glass of sake.

✨ Wrapping Up With Thoughtful Dishes

Every dish felt carefully prepared, and nothing came out looking rushed or ordinary. Throughout the meal, it felt like we were being treated to food made with genuine care.

If you’re looking to unwind with great food and a drink, this quiet and atmospheric late-night dining spot is well worth checking out. Personally, I’d love to come back at lunchtime and try the omakase course next time.

As you walk by, you’ll spot a heavy brown wooden door and a small wooden nameplate rather than a large sign.

The entrance wasn’t particularly eye-catching, so be careful not to walk past it. Since the space is limited, waiting times may occur, so checking ahead before your visit could be a useful tip.
