Hanwoo Town Butcher Restaurant | Pick & Grill Korean Beef
Did this week’s sudden heat leave you feeling a little drained too? At times like this, the saying “When the pressure’s low, head for meat” really seemed true. 😋
Today, I’m sharing my visit to Hanwoo Town Charcoal Grill Butcher Restaurant, where I filled up on a hearty meal with friends not long ago.
The system was simple: pick your meat yourself on the first floor, then head straight up to the second-floor restaurant and grill it over charcoal. It felt like a meat version of Noryangjin Fish Market.
I was happy with the experience because I got to enjoy fresh, high-quality Korean beef at a reasonable value.
🐂 Stepping into Majang Livestock Market

I arrived around dinner time after work, and maybe because it was raining, the atmosphere felt a bit chilly. 🥶
I got to 마장축산물시장 (Majang Livestock Market) in the evening after work. Since it was raining, there weren’t that many people around.

Entrance to Hanwoo Town Butcher Restaurant
After walking a little deeper into the market, I came across rows of butcher shops. I headed to Hanwoo Town Meat Market, where the first floor displayed all the meat and connected directly to the restaurant upstairs. The butcher shop and restaurant were operated together.
🥩 Choosing 1++ Korean Beef With My Own Eyes

Beef displayed under red lighting on the first floor
The butcher showcase on the first floor was packed with neatly packaged cuts of beef. While listening to the owner’s friendly explanations, I spent a while deciding which cuts to pick.
After some thought, I chose shrimp cut beef, a prized cut, and galbi meat, known for its pleasantly chewy texture.

The meat was sliced, then taken up to the restaurant.
The photo showed the shrimp cut. Looking at the snowflake-like marbling, I couldn’t wait to find out how tender it would be once grilled.

Various items sold across from the meat section, plus the elevator connected to the restaurant
Since they also operated the restaurant, they seemed to sell alcohol that paired well with beef. I also spotted items like beef bone broth displayed in the refrigerators opposite the meat counter.

After a quick look around, I paid for the meat and took the elevator directly up to the second-floor restaurant. A spacious and comfortable dining hall opened up. Another place I’d visited before had an outdated second-floor dining area that felt extremely hot, but this one was clean, roomy, and nicely air-conditioned.
🔥 Diving into Hanwoo Town Charcoal-Grilled Beef

Basic table setting and self-serve bar
The table came set with side dishes that paired perfectly with beef, including pickled onions, kimchi, and ssamjang. Whenever I needed more, I could simply help myself at the self-serve bar.

Shrimp cut and galbi meat purchased on the first floor
Shortly after, the staff brought over the beef we’d purchased downstairs.

As soon as the charcoal grill was set up, I carefully placed the meat on top.

The charcoal heat was seriously powerful.

The galbi meat went on too!
Because the heat was so strong, I had to keep flipping the meat and adjusting it frequently.

Exceptionally tender Korean beef
Thanks to the intense charcoal heat, the outside cooked up beautifully while the inside stayed packed with juicy flavor. I dipped a piece lightly in salt and took a bite, and the rich savory taste spread through my mouth. I wanted to take more photos, but everyone was too busy eating, so I actually ended up with fewer good pictures. 😅
🍐 Finishing Off With Pear and Pear Juice

After finishing the beef, I wanted something to refresh my palate. Here, they served a sweet slice of pear and a pouch of pear juice as a post-meal treat. Wrapping things up with chilled pear juice felt refreshing and easy on the stomach.

The pear juice dessert was surprisingly good 😄
When I went to pay, I noticed they also sold the pear juice separately.

Various types of alcohol sold on the second floor
The second floor also offered drinks that paired nicely with beef. If you’re planning to enjoy your meal with wine or whisky, it’s worth keeping in mind.

They were running a free table-setting fee event.
On my way out, I noticed a promotion offering free table-setting fees for reservations made four days in advance. I wished I’d known earlier. ㅠ
💡 Who Should Come Here?
1. Anyone who wanted to enjoy high-quality Korean beef at a reasonable price: Since you bought the meat downstairs and ate it upstairs, it felt much more economical than a typical specialty restaurant.
2. Anyone looking for a spacious venue for gatherings or company dinners: The second-floor dining area was comfortable, roomy, and had plenty of tables for groups.
3. Anyone who enjoyed choosing beef cuts based on personal preference: Being able to check the marbling and freshness yourself and buy exactly the amount you wanted was the biggest advantage.
💬 Wrapping Up With Fresh Korean Beef
Being able to enjoy fresh beef at a reasonable price and grill it over charcoal made this butcher restaurant in Majang-dong feel well worth visiting. I definitely loaded up on quality protein with excellent Korean beef. Next time, I’d love to come back with my family and try an even wider variety of cuts.
